Welcome to
all!
| Hi, glad you could all
come to visit me! I hope you won't be
disappointed.
Just to give you
some info:
I teach Parent-Child Health Nursing at
LaGuardia Community College.
I am a CUNY undergraduate hailing from
Herbert H. Lehman College
where I obtained my BS Degree, and then from
NYU where I earned my
graduate MA degree in Nursing. I was the
Vice-Chairperson of the
Parent-Child
Health Nursing Clinical Practice
Unit of New York State
Nurses Association from
1989-1993, and
finished a four year term
from 1994-1998 as that same committee's
Chair. I was also the Chairperson of
NYSNA's Council on Nursing Practice, and
I was
also an Auxiliary Member of the New York State
Board for Nursing
until 2005.

Here
are some study and test taking tips that you might find helpful:
1. Review your notes along with your class objectives and if you
find something that confuses you, then go back to the text. Don't
expect to read content for the first time just before a test. It
just tends to confuse you. You should always try to keep up with
readings during the semester and take notes to supplement class
notes.
2. When studying, always try to reword theoretical material in your
own words which assures you that you really understand it. Remember
that content will NOT usually be asked in question format exactly
the way it is in the text or even in your notes. Never just
"memorize" something. You have to UNDERSTAND it to really remember
it and be able to apply it.
3. Make sure you get a good nights sleep before a test, and have
something to eat or drink before you take an exam to give your brain
some "juice" to get it going. Remember a car can't run without fuel
and neither can you !
4. Try to be as calm as possible before taking an exam. Anxiety
affects your memory and attention to details. Don't arrive too early
to a test when everyone is trying to get in "last minute studying"
which only confuses you, or too late which might increase your
anxiety. Before you begin the test, take a few deep, cleansing
breaths and relax all your muscles (neck, shoulders and arms) before
you begin. This will also help to decrease your anxiety, as
well as, getting needed oxygen
to your brain cells.
5. While taking the test, remember to check for key words like,
"primary", "best", "least", "not", etc. This will help to cue
you in to what the question is really asking. Make sure you
understand exactly what the question is asking for. Either look for
the correct answer first, or reject those that you know are
incorrect before selecting the appropriate answer. NEVER, NEVER,
NEVER ERASE a chosen answer unless you know for SURE that it is
incorrect. Usually your first choice is the correct one !
6. Last, but not least, GOOD LUCK ! If you have done your work
throughout the semester, you should do just fine. Have
confidence in yourself and you can do it !
