Assignment 3

Listen to this excerpt of American jazz trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie playing his own composition Groovin’ High. Pay attention to the bass line. It is a smooth succession of even notes on the bass:

Now compare the same composition this time performed by Cuban jazz trumpet player Arturo Sandoval. Pay attention to the more rhythmic bass line in this example:

This last excerpt is an illustration of the fusion between Latin musical concepts and jazz music.
