Sunrise

Day's Break

I hate the unmeasured morning,
the punch and shove of the alarm,
the coffee mug still three-quarters full
cooling on the counter, the tee shirt heaped
in a pile on the kitchen table.

First stanza of "Day's Break"
appearing in The Paterson Literary Review 33 (2004).
