My Favorite Holidays

...Since I was a child, my favorite holidays were Christmas and New Year. In Greece around Christmas and New Year the schools close for two weeks. Everything is very exciting. My mother used to bake traditional cookies and to decorate and clean the house. My brothers and I had to decorate the Christmas tree, and we were very excited for the New Year to open our gifts. In Greece Santa Claus is coming on New Year’s Eve. My mother used to cook special traditional foods these days for our family and relatives; we used to play cards and dance all night. The next morning we had to go to church. After church, I was running to play with my gifts, and we had lunch. Afterwards we had to go to my grandmother’s house and stay for the rest of the day and have dinner with all relatives. It was really beautiful. I still love the holidays and I’m very busy around these days.

An Interesting Job

...Drawing has always been one of my hobbies. From kindergarten to high school, I was learning more drawing and painting.
...After my graduation, I decided to learn my hobby, and I registered at the pattern making school. After finishing my program, I continued to a school for fashion design. After my graduation, I opened a small boutique for women’s clothing.
...After five years I had to give up the store and come to New York. As soon as I arrived, I found a job at Bergdorf Goodman as a fitter for the woman’s department. A few years later I decided to register at F.I.T. to learn more, and I took some courses for five years part-time after my job at nights. I took several courses in pattern making, grading and drawing. I like my job at Bergdorf Goodman, but I left my job there to get a better job as an executive head fitter for Barneys, New York and Lord and Taylor and some other stores. I love my job because it is very exciting. I have to fit the women when they buy a dress, skirt, pants, suit and it doesn’t fit the person perfectly.
...Every day I meet interesting people. I am working in the alterations department and I have to explain the work to the dressmakers and tailors. There are a lot of people. I have been doing this work for almost 20 years and I love it. It is a beautiful job. I am working with the design department. The thing that I like best about my job is meeting new people every day.
