My Story

...I was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1976. This is a beautiful country located in South America. There I lived with a wonderful family. I was educated with love and discipline. This discipline allowed me to study and to learn about life and death.
...
I finished my high school when I was 15. After that, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Biology. This was an exciting experience for me because I could learn a lot of things about life. There I worked at the Hitology and Genetic laboratory where I started my passion for science. In the last years of my college I went to work in the National Institute of Health (NIH) while I studied in the School of Medicine in the National University of Colombia. In the NIH of Colombia, I met interesting people with great interest in the sciences. They wanted to find a cure for several illnesses and to discover the secrets of life, like me. In the NIH, I worked with the degeneration and regeneration of the peripheral nervous system in rats and humans. In the Medical School I learned a lot of knowledge about the human life and its suffering. When I finished my medical studies, I went to work in a small town called Viani. There I learned how the patients have an impressive suffering and how everybody can help them. You do not need to be a doctor to help persons who have an illness or a problem. These experiences helped me to understand health and disease.
...In this time I had the opportunity to come to the United States to work as a researcher. The United States is the biggest country to do science in the world because there is a big interest in science and technology. That was a great opportunity to learn. I have a good job as a researcher in New York Medical Center that has allowed me to discover interesting secrets about neurons and solve some questions. Actually, I continue working for a better quality of life for everybody. It has been a wonderful experience! This is what you do not see when you look at me.

Who Is The Best Presidential Candidate To The Minorities In The United States Of America?

...When an immigrant comes to America, there are different questions about what will happen with him. One of these questions is: How will be your live in that country? The give hope in a better life in America is the most important. But the real world to a lot of immigrants is difficult and hard. They do not have social security, nor Health insurance and nor education opportunities. Then, the immigrants convert us in a social problem. For example, US admits 660000 legal immigrants for year and about 5 million illegal aliens reside in the country. The main problem is that the different politics about immigration are analyzed as a defense problem. This is happening now with the presidential candidates in America. I will analyzed some aspects about what is the best presidential candidate to the minorities in the United States of America. In 2004, there are six presidential candidates in competence. They are George Bush, Howard Dean, John Edwards, John Kerry, Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton. ...Actually, I will talk about John Edwards. He is one of the presidential candidates. North Carolina Senator John Edwards. Edwards proposes a country where the minorities is going to have equal rights. He says that America should be a country without discrimination, with the same opportunities for the people. He is against Bush immigration proposal because he says that it violates to have equal rights. Edward says that Bush’s would move millions of people into a second-class status with no real promise of citizenship. He thinks that one of the most important problems in Latino community is the language. For this reason he wants to create a National Medical Translation System, increased the funding for health disparities Research in the National Institute of Health and to give more opportunities to study. He proposed to increase the money to the Gaining early awareness and readiness for undergraduate program (GEARUP). This program helps disadvantages students prepare for college. In general this candidate has good ideas but the information in the mass media was insufficient to do a good appreciation about his government program. In general his politic is summarized with this idea: “The right kind of immigration reform will ensure that immigrants who work hard, pay their taxes, and play by the rules have the opportunity to become permanent members of the America community”.

Senator John Edwards
