My Story

...My name is Karina. I was born in Argentina in 1974. I lived in Argentina until I was 24 years old. After that, I came to New York in 1999. When I was in Argentina, I was living with my family. I have my mother, my father and four sisters who are younger.
...I had a wonderful childhood and I had a lot of friends. The high school was very important for me because it was the growing period. I finished high school when I was 18 years old. Then I entered the college where I studied tourism and administration for four years. It was in that moment after my graduation when I started to wonder, what else? I did not feel comfortable with what I had studied. In fact, I did not like it and I felt that there were more things to do, more things to discover. I decided to come to the USA.
...I have lived in New York for four years. I love this country, and I am very happy to live here. I am content in that the drama of life brought me here. The adaptation was a little bit difficult, but little by little I could get used to the city. I am working as a dental assistant on a dental bus. We move around the city, and we assist people who have a Medicare card.
...In the USA I have some cousins. They are my mother’s cousins. They are Italian American. It is a beautiful family who I get in touch with frequently and we meet for the holidays.
...I would like to learn English very well and get in college and study.

A Vegetarian Diet

...The quality of our diet is the most important consideration for our health. Many diseases are caused by the kind of food that we consume. We can see clearly how this problem is affecting the kids, adolescents and adults. One of the most serious problems is the underweight and overweight kids. The seniors and adults are suffering form cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, cancer and heart disease. If we introduce vegetarianism into our life style, it could be one of the solutions to prevent many diseases. The excessive amounts of animal fat and cholesterol bring us the lack of balance in the body. A diet with vegetables, grains, and fruit will provide us many benefits such as more energy and less stress. Concentration will also increase. The knowledge of how to eat properly and be healthy will bring well-being to the mind and body.
...For example, this has been important for me to follow a vegetarian diet. I had a car accident four months ago, and my condition was serious. As soon as I got to the hospital, they took a lot of x-rays of me and found that I was bleeding. Immediately they cleaned everything. They removed my spleen and part of my liver. I broke four ribs and fractured my pelvis. I was in the hospital for nine days. After the operation, the doctor said that although my condition was delicate, the surgery was successful, and there were no complications. I recovered very well.
...I want to say with this that the healthy diet, low in fat and toxins, could prevent constipation, pneumonia and liver diseases.

The Vegetarians

...Vegetarianism means much more than vegetables or a kind of diet. It is a vision of life. It is a mental attitude too. Most vegetarians start to clean the body of toxins; therefore they have more stability in their life. Most vegetarians are people who have chosen that because they believe that it might be one of the things that can move us closer to a peaceful society, but we must first solve the problem of violence in our own hearts.
...The vegetarians usually live a positive life. If the mind and the body keep this process of balance, it is 100% certain that our life will take a better way. How do I clean the mind? It means to be free of negative thoughts. Being free of negative and greedy thoughts helps us to be free of stress. It means to live a positive life.
...To create a better society, we need to be kind and honest with our own self; consequently, we must be away of that if the world will change.
