O’Hair, Stewart, Rubenstein. A Speaker’s Guidebook: text and reference, 2004

This course is designed to further develop your ability to research, construct, outline and deliver speeches building on the foundation of your work in Oral Communication. In this Honors section of the course there will be a special emphasis on competitive forensics, leading up to your participation in the Annual LaGuardia Speech Contest. The course has an e-laboratory component which will be used to assist you in your research, the development of presentation aids, and as an aspect of the project to be undertaken with a Museum of Modern Art educator.

Attendance policy:

It is essential that you attend all classes. Credit will not be given if you miss more than 5 hours of class work (6 hrs = failure, 5 hrs = final grade drops one full grade, 4 hrs, final grade drops ½ grade). You are allowed 3 hrs (e.g., one single hr class plus one double hour class = 1 full week) absence for any reason (no distinction is made between "excused" and "unexcused" absences). Lateness: Similarly, lateness should be avoided. You are late if you arrive after attendance has been taken (approx. 5 minutes after the class is scheduled to begin); 20+ minutes late = 1 full hour. absence).
