                   IN-CLASS COMPOSITIONS

Please keep in mind that the most important assignments in this class are the weekly compositions and the rewrites.  The final exam is an in-class composition similar to the ones you will write each week.  These compositions are judged on fluency, grammatical accuracy, and the organization of ideas.

 a. All compositions must be rewritten and submitted to me within a week  of your receiving them.

 b. Read the note I’ve attached to the composition carefully.  It discusses in detail how you should revise your composition.  Revising a composition generally does not mean just correcting the grammar mistakes.  It means working on the organization and development of your ideas.  If what I’ve written is unclear, please ask me to clarify it before you leave class.

 c. All drafts of a composition should be written in ink on notebook paper.  If you type your composition, you should double space and check for typos.

 d. When you receive the second draft of your composition with my responses, look at what I’ve written on top.  It may say:

1.     Rewrite only the sentences with errors.
2.     Revise your introduction and/or conclusion
3.     Revise your first, second, third, etc. paragraph
4.     Rewrite the (entire) composition.

If you receive a U+ on top, this means you don’t need to revise anything and you have received credit for the composition.

e. Generally, you will be writing your weekly composition on Thursday.  If you are absent that day, you should call a classmate to find out the topic, write the composition at home, and give it to me the following Tuesday.

f. Please attach the first draft and any additional drafts to the draft to the draft you are submitting.
