Since Fall Semester 2005, Kenneth Yin has taught ESL099 (English as a Second Language IV) as a paired course with chemistry. The pair is primarily designed for those advanced-ESL students enrolled in nursing and other allied-health programs. Some useful links for students of ESL and chemistry are given below.

The CUNY WriteSite is an Online Writing Lab (OWL) that contains a collection of writing resources and serves as a way of interacting with other CUNY writers through the Internet. It complements face-to-face resources such as campus-based writing centers, and it is always open. The WriteSite is designed to be self-explanatory and easy to use. The URL is http://writesite.cuny.edu/ .

The original OWL at Purdue University offers various materials for ESL students, including resource pages, handouts, and exercises. The site provides a very helpful guide to ESL self-study materials, including print materials, audio materials, and interactive computer software. The Purdue OWL offers printer-friendly versions of its grammar handouts and exercises. The URL is http://owl.english.purdue.edu/oldindex.html .

Dave's ESL Café is a popular Internet site for ESL and EFL students from around the world. The site, maintained by Dave Sperling, includes pages for idioms, phrasal verbs, pronunciation, quizzes, and even slang. This site also hosts several student forums on selected topics of interest. The URL is http://www.eslcafe.com/ .

The Website of the American Chemical Society provides various resources for students of chemistry. These resources include recent articles relating to chemistry and links specifically aimed at college students of chemistry. The URL is http://www.chemistry.org/ .
