THE ECOLOGY OF AN AGENCY
1. Beneficiaries includes clients, their families, workers, and the general
community.
2. Funders include those who give grants or donations and those who
provide money through contracts.
3. Competing agencies include both non-profit and profit-making organ-
izations that provide the same services.
4, Suppliers of non-cash resources may include volunteers, interns from
educational institutions, donors of food or equipment, etc.
5. Regulatory bodies may include funders, as well as the Fire Department,
Health Department, State Department of Social Services, Attorney Gen-
eral, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, National Labor
Relations Board, etc.
6. Cooperating organizations are those that plan and work with your
agency to meet common goals. Agencies may switch back and forth
from cooperating to competing as different issues and opportunities
arise.
7. All of these elements influence your agency.
