DEFINITION OF ROLE AND RELATED CONCEPTS
A role is a set of social expectations
A role set is a combination of roles that usually are matched
to each other: teacher/student, parent/child, supervisor/supervisee,
interviewer/interviewee. It is difficult to have one role without the other.
Role conflict exists when a person is expected to fulfill two different
roles at the same time: employee/student, parent/student, supervisor/
friend.
Role strain occurs when a person is experiencing role conflict.
