TABLE OF ORGANIZATION
The table of organization shows relationships
within the organization. A position near the top of the table has more
responsibility and power. Positions near the bottom report up the solid
lines to the positions above them. Positions equal in rank are usually
listed at the same level, although space on a page may influence the
ability to draw this out. The critical element is, How many layers are
there between the position and the place where important decisions are
made?
The formal lines of an organization only tell one
part of how things work. Personal relationships, connections with people
outside the organization and other factors may influence how things
really work. Sometimes by ability or charisma or personal connections,
people develop more influence than their position would ordinarily
allow.
