Human Services Worker

DAY THREE

Joan welcomes HSW to the office as the Day begins.  She notices HSW's lack of enthusiasm for Frank, and probes to find out what has happened between them.  She believes that Frank's conduct is sexual harrassment, and gives HSW some material to read about it.

Joan convenes the staff meeting, showing everyone an agenda.  Betsy begins her case discussion by describing a situation where a tenant in an apartment has sublet a room, where an older woman is now living in filth.  There are many questions about "who are we working for" in the situation.  Frank volunteers to use his limited Italian language to talk with the older woman.  He lets a comment about his "way with women" slip out, and Joan challenges him about it.

Frank comes up to HSW after the meeting, and worries out loud that HSW has been complaining about him.  Wilma comes up immediately after, and challenges HSW's non-assertiveness with Frank.  She discusses the option of "just forgetting about it."

Henxley brings in a client who needs a letter from a school principal.  HSW is asked to become an advocate for the client.  Her manner with the school's secretary doesn't get the job done, so HSW invites Betsy in to help her.  Betsy intervenes effectively, and models one way to get the client what she needs.  She reminds HSW that she may need to get something from the secretary again, so she needs to interact in a way that will allow her to talk usefully with the secretary again.
