Human Services Worker

DAY EIGHT

Joan tells HSW that Ms. French has asked that she be assigned as an outreach worker to relate to junior-high-age girls who live in the housing project.  HSW turns to Wilma for advice.  Betsy joins the conversation as the two senior workers explain some of the dynamics of the outreach role.

Wilma and Betsy remind HSW about the pains of young adolescence.  They also tell her that the girls will find ways to test her, to see if she really cares, and what she stands for.

Soon Mary Grace has arrived, and the meeting with Frank begins.  Even during the meeting, Frank can't quite control his language.  Mary Grace questions whether he is fit to work in the field of Human Services.  Certain recommendations are made, and he is on a very strict probation.

An hour later, HSW is looking out the window of Ms. French's apartment.  They observe some suspicious activity below, and soon HSW is talking with two girls who are sitting on a bench.

One of the girls is suspicious, but the other knows of the agency.  After the first one leaves, the second girl, Lisa, reveals that she has a pressing personal problem.  Could she come to the agency to talk with HSW?

Back at the office, HSW and Wilma wonder if Lisa will come for her appointment.  As the day comes to a close, a new chapter opens in the life and work of HSW.
