Kate Chopin and The Story of an Hour
Today we will be looking at information contained in one computer
site about the author of The Story of an Hour, Kate Chopin
and a second site about the History of the Women's Rights
Movement. Click on the "External Links" box to get
to the Kate Chopin folder. What similarities can you find
between the author's life and that of her main character in
the story? How do you think that the author was influenced
by the Women's Rights Movement? Can you find any surprising
information in the Women's Rights Movement site? Share some
of your ideas with a few of your classmates in a chat room.

on Group Pages. Click on the group that you belond to (group
1 - 5). Click on Virtual Chat. Finally, post some of your
ideas on the Discussion Board (click "Communication")

Virginia Woolf and looking at photographs of her home and writing
cottage. Go to the External Links section to view these sites.

Chitra Divakaruni and Disappearance
Learn more about the author, Chitra Divakaruni and the world
of arranged marriages by going to the External Links section
and clicking on the "Chitra Divakaruni" folder. Read
about her life and about arranged marriages in Japan and in
India. Do you know of anyone who's had an arranged marriage?
Would you choose this type of marriage? Take the quiz on domestic
violence which you'll also find in the Chitra Divakaruni folder
in External Links. At about 9:45 AM, you'll have a chance to
discuss your ideas about the story, Disappearance, with members
of the class by getting into virtual chat groups. Finally, post
your summary comments on the Discussion Board and respond to

Today we'll be looking at three links related to The Kugelmass

Beattie. You'll listen to this interview and answer the comprehension

Ann Beattie and the third site has photos of Ann Beattie's books
and one of the author too. Enjoy listening to and reading more

Who are some of the important father-figures in history? How
did they achieve their positions of power? Learn more about
this topic by reading the information in the Links folder. You
will be reading about six different political father figures:
Italy's Mussolini, Germany's Hitler, Japan's Hirohito, Yugoslavia's
Tito, the Soviet Union's Stalin and Romania's Ceausescu. In
addition, test your grammar skills by taking the cloze exercise
