Frequently Asked Questions about Scholarships
1. What is a named endowed scholarship?
A named endowed scholarship is established with a minimum gift of $50,000, which can be paid in multi-year installments. The interest from the endowment is used to fund the scholarship on an annual basis. Since the principle investment is never utilized, this is a perpetual gift. The endowed scholarship bears the title of the donor, or name selected by the donor, and is maintained as a separate account within the QCC Fund, Inc. A donor can establish scholarship criteria for student selection, but the criteria cannot discriminate against race, gender, or religion. 2. Are there other ways I can donate to student scholarships, besides through an endowed scholarship?
Yes! You can donate any amount to one of QCC's already existing scholarships, or departmental awards including our Merit Scholarship Fund, which recognizes our students' dedication to their academic studies. To contribute to the Merit Scholarship Fund, please click the Give To QCC button and choose “scholarships” in the drop-down menu.
3. How are scholarships awarded?
Queensborough's Office of Institutional Advancement will work with the donor to develop the award criteria. The Advancement Office will then collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs or the appropriate academic department or program to select recipients on an annual basis.
4. Will I know who received my scholarships?
Yes, the office of Institutional Advancement keeps this information in its records.
