Our goal is to provide students with one location to find accurate and up to date information regarding scholarships, those awarded by CUNY and Queensborough Community College, along with scholarships awarded by external organizations (corporations, etc.)


Jackson & Muriel Lum Engineering Technology Award

Deadline Date: Application submission is closed

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,000

Students in the Engineering Technology department can apply for the highly coveted Jackson and Muriel Lum ET Award. To be eligible, the applicant must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time in a program in the Engineering Technology (ET) department at Queensborough Community College and has completed at least one semester at the College;
  • Have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0; and
  • Demonstrate financial need;

The applicant must complete and submit

  • FAFSA application;
  • Jackson and Muriel Lum Engineering Technology Award Application (top-ranked applicants will be interviewed);
  • A one-page statement that includes the applicant’s personal background information, career-aspirations, and any other pertinent information that will tell the review committe about you, and;
  • Copy of recent transcript.

Engineering Technology Merit Scholarship Award

Deadline Date: Application submission is closed

Award Amount: $1,000

Thanks to a generous donation from SKANSKA USA CIVIL, students in the Engineering Technology department can apply for the Engineering Technology Merit Scholarship. To be eligible, the applicant must satisfy all of the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time in a program in the Engineering Technology (ET) department at Queensborough Community College; and
  • Demonstrate financial need; and
  • Have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5.

The applicant must complete and submit:

  • An Engineering Technology Merit Scholarship Award Application; and
  • A one-page statement that includes the applicant’s personal background information, career-aspirations, and any other pertinent information that will tell the review committe about you; and
  • A letter of recommendation from an ET faculty member.

ET Merit Scholarship recipients will be invited to meet with SKANSKA USA CIVIL representatives.

Chai Ho and F.Y. Chiu Scholarship

Deadline Date: Application submission is closed

Award Amount: $750

Queensborough Community College Students can apply for the highly coveted Chai Ho and F.Y. Chiu Scholarship. To be eligible, the applicant must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time in a program at Queensborough Community College; and
  • Enrolled in Elementary Chinese Language I (LC 111) or Elementary Chinese Language II (LC 112) courses at the College; and
  • Demonstrate financial need.

The applicant must complete and submit

  • Chai Ho and F.Y. Chiu Scholarship Award Application; and
  • A 300-word statement of purpose that includes the applicant’s personal background information, and interest in taking Chinese language courses.

The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation Student Emergency Grant Funds

The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation has awarded Queensborough Community College a three-year grant to provide one-time, emergency grants to students currently enrolled and in good academic standing with short-term financial emergencies to enable them to remain in school, rather than being forced to leave or drop-out. The goal is to increase the number of students who successfully complete college.

Students may access the grant funds at Queensborough Community College for emergencies such as the following, but are not limited to:

  • Temporary loss of a job or income;
  • Fire/flood in living quarters;
  • Overdue utility bills/turn off notice;
  • Rent in arrears, at risk for eviction;
  • Theft of computer, books, clothing or other essential belongings;
  • Medical bills for uninsured necessary appointments, accidents, or surgery;
  • Eyeglasses or essential dental work;
  • Travel home for illness or death in the immediate family;
  • Homelessness due to loss of housing, for student and family dependents;
  • Loss of childcare;
  • Winter coat or interview suit;
  • Victims of domestic abuse;
  • Food card, to eat in cafeteria; and
  • Transportation card, to get to and from school and/or medical appointment.

All grants are subject to approval with documentation and verification to support your application.

Grants will not be given for:

  • Student fees or tuition charges;
  • Previously owed debt;
  • Legal representation;
  • Program licensing expenses;
  • The grant can only be used for one time emergency at Queensborough Community College

Spring 2025 Continuing Student Academic Merit Scholarship

Award Amount: Up to $1000 for Spring 2025 semester
Information:

Please be advised that we are now accepting applications for the Spring 2025 QCC Continuing Student Academic Merit Scholarship. Awards of up to $1,000 for the Spring 2025 semester will be given to select students. Listed below are the eligibility requirements that all applicants must meet in order to be considered:

  • Candidates must have completed a minimum of 24 Queensborough Community College credits;
  • Candidates must have completed all remedial coursework;
  • Candidates must be matriculated and registered for a  minimum of 15 credits for the Spring 2025 semester at Queensborough  Community College by December 6, 2024;*
  • Candidates must possess a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.25 or higher;
  • All candidates must submit a well-written formal essay describing themselves, their career goals and how this scholarship will help them continue their studies at QCC;
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or an international/foreign student with a valid student visa.

*Students who are graduating at the conclusion of the Spring 2025 semester and don't need 15 credits to complete their remaining degree requirements are exempt from this criterion, however they must be registered by the date of December 6, 2024.

Note: This award is not transferable; all students applying for this scholarship must be returning to QCC for the Spring 2025 semester in order to be considered.

Barbara and Harry Sperber Scholarship for Part-time Students

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 for Spring 2025 semester
Information:

QCC is proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity targeted for our part-time students – the Barbara and Harry Sperber Scholarship. Awards of up to $1,000 per semester for the Spring 2025 semester will be given to select students based upon financial need.

The Scholarship seeks to provide educational opportunities for both prospective and continuing part-time students enrolled in certificate or associate programs at Queensborough Community College. Funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, course-required texts and materials, and expenses that make attendance at the College possible. Students must demonstrate financial need to qualify for the Scholarship which is open to Queensborough students who are not fully covered by financial aid or who would otherwise not be able to attend college due to financial constraints.

Listed below are the eligibility requirements that ALL applicants must meet in order to be considered:

  • Candidates must complete the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need;
  • Continuing students must register for no more than 11 credits for the Spring 2025 semester at Queensborough Community College by December 6, 2024*
  • All candidates must submit a well-written formal essay describing themselves and how this scholarship will support their studies at QCC (minimum 250 words);
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or an international/foreign student with a valid student visa.

*newly admitted students for the Spring 2025 semester who register after December 6, 2024 will also be eligible to apply.

Note: This award is not transferable; all students applying for this scholarship must be enrolling at QCC for the Spring 2025 semester in order to be considered.

Queensborough Community College STEM Support Expansion Program

The STEM Support Expansion Program provides tuition waivers for students taking certain STEM courses in order to promote credit accumulation in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Queensborough will be providing tuition waivers to students taking STEM courses in the Winter and Summer inter-sessions. Classes in which the STEM waivers will apply will be scheduled each semester so students will be able to enroll and receive a tuition waiver. Eligibility requirements will apply to certain courses.
