Course Description in college catalog:

Designed to acquaint the student with the routines of a medical office, including medical records, financial records, correspondence, case histories, medical articles, appointment scheduling, and filing methods. The student will acquire a basic knowledge of medical terminology along with practical applications.

Students will achieve the following course objectives:

  1. Communicate effectively through reading, writing, listening, and speaking through class activities, projects and assignments.

  2. Use analytical reasoning to identify healthcare issues and/or problems and evaluate feedback in order to make informed decisions through current articles and case analysis.

  3. Reason quantitatively and mathematically as required in the daily tasks of the Administrative Medical Assistant using Microsoft Excel for financial procedures.

  4. Apply logical measures in the evaluation of managing medical office procedures and mathematical practices in financial tasks such as employee payroll, patient billing, collections, insurance reimbursement, petty cash.

  5. Use information management and technology skills effectively for academic research and lifelong learning through the use of CONNECT, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Medisoft.

  6. Integrate knowledge and skills in the healthcare/medical office environment.

  7. Work collaboratively in group setting to accomplish learning objectives.

  8. Employ concepts and methods of the professional and ethical practices to make informed decisions    through case analysis and end-of-chapter projects.

  9. Apply creative and logical measures in the evaluation or creation of works in the practical promotional concepts through the use healthcare facility layout design, creating patient information material, etc.
