Course Description in college catalog:

This course provides an in-depth coverage of computer operating system concepts through the use of discussions and hands-on lab projects. Topics include operating systems history; user accounts; graphical user interface; data structure and organization; customization; disk storage concepts; hardware and software interaction; file systems; shortcuts; backup and recovery; computer security; utilities; disk optimization; system performance; system restoration and troubleshooting.

At the completion of this course students will:

  1. Understand the function of an operating system be able to customize the appearance of various operating systems.

  2. Have an understanding of different file systems, how to organize and manage files and folders, and the impact of different file systems on storage utilization.

  3. Effectively use compression and encryption of files and folders, along with methods to increase security within the system.

  4. Trouble-shoot system problems and apply corrective actions.

Use technical tools and analytical reasoning to implement solutions to business problems by managing operating system and networking software and creating a secure computer environment.
