Course Description in college catalog:

This laboratory course complements CH-120 (Fundamentals of Chemistry) and provides basic knowledge of modern experimental chemistry. It demonstrates how chemical laws are derived, verified, and applied. It introduces essential laboratory methods and techniques including separations and chromatography; determination of density and melting and boiling points; electrical conductivity of solutions; qualitative analysis; chemical reactions and stoichiometry; pH analysis; and titration. This course is not open to students who have completed CH-127CH-128CH-151, CH-152CH-251 or CH-252.

The overall course grade will be computed based on performance in the following areas:

  • Attendance, participation, and performance: 30%
  • Written laboratory reports submitted on time: 60%
  • Laboratory final exam: 10%

The distribution may be changed at the discretion of the individual instructor. The final exam will be given during finals week. This multiple choice exam will cover the various equipment and methods you have used during the semester, as well as major details of some of the experiments. Your instructor will provide additional details.
