At the October meeting of the Academic Senate a resolution to alter the college’s email policy was passed. After the meeting, Interim President Timothy Lynch promptly contacted faculty governance leaders to discuss the plan to implement the policy. The plan was agreed to, and faculty governance leaders extend their sincere thanks to the president for his collegiality and commitment to shared governance.
Last year the Senate passed a resolution to open a child care facility at QCC for children of QCC students. Recently, Interim President Timothy Lynch reported to SC that members of his cabinet have toured CUNY child care center sites to gather information. Issues in opening a center include square footage requirements per child mandated by law, staffing, and insurance. Further challenges are presented by the current budget crisis. A next step is to prioritize space for a child care center in the upcoming Facilities Master Plan that will evolve from the Academic Master Plan, which is now in progress. A child care center prioritization in the FMP will open possible avenues for necessary funding. SC thanks the Interim President for the steps he has taken toward implementing the Senate’s Child Care Policy.
SC thanks Dean Arthur Corradetti for his leadership in the process of creating a five-year Academic Master Plan. The process is moving according to schedule and SC thanks participating faculty for responding to the AMP survey. Significant thanks also go to faculty who have agreed to work on the AMP Steering Committee and Working Groups. Faculty response has been heartening and a full list of participants is forthcoming.
Because of FEC support and past SC support for the drafting of an “Anti-Bullying Statement,” SC will move to refer the matter to a committee for consideration. Concerns about the feasibility of such a statement have been raised in past Senate meetings and will be addressed by the committee. Rationales for consideration of an anti-bullying statement include research on the effects on mental health of a hostile work environment, current CUNY BOT consideration of the issue, and action taken on the issue by another CUNY unit. It will be moved that SC, FEC, OAA, QCC Counsel, and the union be represented on the committee.
