Queensborough Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2024

Queensborough Community College is excited to celebrate with those in our community who identify as Hispanic, Latino/a, and LatinX. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the history, culture, and contributions of those who have roots in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Mexico, and Spain. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and became a 30-day celebration in 1988. It begins on September 15 to coincide with Independence Days in several Latin American countries.

Independence Days celebrated within Hispanic Heritage Month include*:

  • September 15 - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua
  • September 16 – Mexico
  • September 18 – Chile
  • September 21 – Belize

“…after a time you may recognize that the proper measure of success is not how much you’ve closed the distance to some far-off goal but the quality of what you’ve done today.”
