Queensborough students interested in taking a Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) course within their degree program, should apply for a winter STEM course tuition waiver to receive their course tuition-free after registering for that course via CUNYfirst. If your STEM waiver is approved, your selected course will be free.*

How do I Register for Winter Session?
Current QCC and CUNY Students attending a CUNY College other than Queensborough should register via Schedule Builder on CUNYfirst. Advisement is not required, but we urge QCC students to make an appointment to speak with an adviser prior to registering. You can email or call your adviser (listed in Navigate360).

Schedule Builder is designed to assist you in planning your schedule. Schedule Builder allows you to graphically view schedule options based on the courses and times that work best for you.

Login to your Student Center on CUNYfirst.

Click the “Schedule Builder” tile to access the Schedule Builder application. (Be sure to allow pop-ups in the browser).

Once the application opens, Schedule Builder’s Welcome page should appear. Next, select the term in which you would like to search for classes directly on the Welcome page.

- You don't have to pay now; just register for the classes you need
- You can register for the next course in a sequence without waiting for your current semester grades; for example, if you enrolled in ENGL101 you can register now for ENGL102!
Winter STEM Waiver for Current Queensborough Students
The STEM Tuition Waiver program provides tuition reimbursement to eligible students for one Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) course taken in Winter 2025. The waiver is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and the funds are limited, so please read the eligibility requirements below and apply as early as possible.
The Winter ’25 STEM Tuition Waiver application will open at 9 AM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 and closes at 11:59 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024.
To apply for a STEM Tuition Waiver, please read the eligibility information below carefully. When you fill-out the application, you will need to check the box indicating that you understand the eligibility requirements. Fill in the requested information on the application, and then click to submit. If your application has been successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
Winter ’25 STEM Waiver eligibility
- Be currently enrolled for the Fall ’24 semester as a degree-seeking student at Queensborough Community College
- Be in good financial standing with the College (no Bursar holds on your account).
- Register for one STEM course in the Winter 2025 session at QCC. The STEM course must be required for your degree.
- You must be registered for the STEM Winter 2025 course you wish to take before submitting the application, otherwise the online application will not allow you to apply. Please note, the database used for the application is refreshed daily, every Monday - Friday morning, and not over the weekend. Students will need to allow 24 hours for enrollment data to appear in the application database. If you register for a Winter STEM class over the weekend, you will need to wait until Monday morning to apply.
- If you are unsure about what STEM courses you need to take for your degree, please see your advisor before registering.
- Queensborough students are not permitted to use the STEM waiver for courses taken elsewhere on e-permit.
- Register for at least one course in Spring 2025. If you have not registered for at least one course during Spring 2025, please do so before submitting the application. If this is the final course that you need for graduation, then you do not have to register for Spring 2025. Please check the box on the form indicating that this is your last course needed for graduation.
- Attend the STEM course in Winter 2025. Students who receive a WN for non-attendance will not receive a STEM Tuition Waiver and will be required to pay for the course .
- Submit this application no later than 11:59 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024.
- STEM Tuition Waivers will be offered to students on a first come, first served basis. The number of waivers awarded is limited by the amount of funding for the program received from the City of New York.
- Check your student email: You will receive a notice by email telling you whether or not you have been offered a waiver. All students will be notified the week of December 2nd, 2024.
- Understand that after applying, you may change your registration to a different STEM course offered during the Winter 2025 session. However, you must still meet all of the conditions listed above to receive the waiver.
- Understand that the STEM Tuition Waiver only covers tuition. You are still responsible for any fees associated with your course or registration.
