Get On Board
The first few weeks of college can be both exciting and challenging! Every student is different. Some students adjust quickly, and some take time to adjust to college life. Here are a few tips and things to do at the beginning of the semester to get you off to a strong start!
Attend Orientation & Welcome Week Events
The faster you learn your way around campus, the more at ease youll feel and the better prepared you'll be when issues arise. Office of New Student Engagement. (718) 281-5130. Newstudents@qcc.cuny.edu
Use Your Technology Tools
Familiarize yourself with the campus website. From the main menu under Login at the top of this website you can log into CUNYfirst, TigerMail and the CUNY Portal. Download the QCC Connect App.
Go to Class
Obvious, right? Maybe, but, it will be so tempting to sleep in and miss that 8 am class. Avoid the temptation. You will learn what you need to know, meet other students, and save time studying later.
Build a Relationship with your Professors
There are only upsides to getting to know your professors, especially if later in the semester you run into some snags. Professors schedule office hours for the sole purpose of meeting with students-take advantage of that time.
Manage Your Time Wisely
Time management skills are necessary to explore all that college life has to offer. Buy an organizer, use an app, or get a big wall calendar-whatever it takes for you to get and stay organized.
