The Transfer Resource Center works with current Queensborough Community College students to assist them in preparing to transfer to four-year colleges after earning their degree.

Transfer Application

Transfer to a four-year college requires that you complete a transfer application. Click here for details regarding transfer to CUNY, SUNY and Private colleges.


Transfer Application Priority Due Dates:

  • For Fall Enrollment:

    • CUNY colleges:  February 1st
    • SUNY colleges:  March 1st
    • Private colleges:  Vary. Please check each individual college's website for information.

  • For Spring Enrollment:

    • CUNY colleges:  September 15th
    • SUNY colleges:  October 15th
    • Private colleges:  Vary. Please check each individual college's website for information.

Note: Students enrolled in Visual and Performing Arts majors may be required to apply earlier than dates posted above as a portfolio or audition may required.

Transfer Planning Time Frame

Not sure when you should start to think about where life will lead you after you graduate from Queensborough? Use our Transfer Timeline to help you stay on track.

  • Start thinking about your career choices. Take Focus 2 to help you find your career path. Make an appointment with a career adviser in the Office of Career Services (Library Building, Room 429) to understand your results.

  • Meet with your academic adviser to plan your classes. Be sure to ask about Dual/Joint Degree Agreements and Transfer (Articulation) Agreements with four-year colleges.

  • Begin researching four-year colleges and universities. Focus on degree programs offered, location and cost.

  • Maintain good grades. Although a specific minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) is required to graduate from QCC (check your program to learn all requirements), entrance requirements for certain programs at four-year colleges may differ.

  • Meet with your academic advisor to stay on track.

  • Join one of QCC's student clubs, groups and organizations.

  • Make an appointment with a career adviser in the Office of Career Services (Library Building, Room 429) to discuss your career options if you were not able to do so in your first semester.

  • View the Exploring Transfer PowerPoint. This tool contains information about the transfer timeline as well as clickable links to a variety of resources to assist in exploring options available at CUNY, SUNY and private four-year colleges.

  • Attend the QCC Transfer Fair (offered each fall), transfer information seminars, four-year college open houses, and campus tours to learn about programs at 4-year colleges.

  • Contact the colleges that interest you to discuss admission requirements for your intended major. (Note: the minimum requirements for graduation may not meet the minimum requirements for entry into the program you desire.)

  • Explore scholarship options.

  • Meet with your academic adviser to stay on track.

  • View the Transfer Process PowerPoint. This tool contains information about deadline dates, transfer credit evaluation tools, clickable links to prepare for and access transfer credit applications as well as what to expect after you apply to transfer.

  • Apply to transfer to four-year colleges, and complete scholarship applications, before published deadlines. Complete all requirements which may include a portfolio, recommendation letters or personal statements.

  • Make the most of the CUNY Transfer Application. You can apply to up to four CUNY colleges. There is no application fee for current QCC students.

  • Make the most of the SUNY Transfer Application. You can apply to up to seven SUNY colleges. There is no application fee if you will be a QCC graduate.

  • Clear any holds on your CUNY account which may delay your application.

  • Keep attending classes. Successful completion of your final courses is important.

  • Receive acceptance and scholarship letters or emails from transfer colleges.

  • Make a decision regarding which school you plan to transfer to.

  • Declare your major!

  • Students transferring to a CUNY four-year college should contact the Office of Admissions there to advise them that you have completed your final courses for your Associate degree.

  • Students transferring to a non-CUNY college should submit a transcript request form in the Office of the Registrar to have their final transcript sent there.

Utilize the tools below to learn how your courses will transfer to a CUNY four-year college.

  • Transfer What-If lets students see how their credits taken at a CUNY college transfer to another CUNY college and apply toward a specific area of study.
  • CUNY Transfer Explorer (T-Rex) shares how courses transfer across CUNY, how credits for prior learning (non-CUNY, training, and exams), and information on course equivalencies (ePermit). Students can also login for a personalized experience and can create transfer plans.
  • SUNY Course Equivalency Tables show how credits transfer to many of the SUNY colleges.
  • The Baruch College, Zicklin Transfer Explorer allows students to log into CUNYfirst, have the tool autopopulate with the courses and grades they have completed so far to see how those courses will transfer to meet eligibility requirements, and determine their Business GPA.
Students are strongly encouraged to verify course transferability directly with the four-year institution as they will make the final determination of transfer credit.

  • For assistance with the following applications, once submitted, please contact:

Students in the CUNY Justice Academy (CJA), who wish to transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice do not need to apply to transfer. 

  • In their final semester, CJA students must check their student email for an invitation to transition to John Jay. Fall graduates will receive this email in mid-October. Spring graduates will receive this email in mid-March. If this email is not received by the date that aligns with your graduation date, please contact cja@jjay.cuny.edu directly.

Dual/Joint Degree Agreements

Our ten Dual/Joint Degree programs at Queensborough Community College (QCC) are designed to provide our students with an Associate Degree that is equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelor Degree at a specific four-year college. This allows them to maximize their preparation for upper division programs in Biotechnology, Computer Science and Information Security, Criminal Justice, Education, Forensic Accounting, Forensic Science, Nursing and Pharmaceutical Studies.

Following successful completion of the Associate Degree program from Queensborough Community College, and by following the transfer admissions process for the four-year college, students will have a seamless transfer into the stated baccalaureate program at the four-year college.All students attending QCC are eligible.

Students who fulfill all requirements of a Dual/Join Agreement gain:

  • Assured entry to their focused program of study at the four-year college
  • Assured transfer of QCC (credit-bearing) courses
  • Access to research programs and/or transfer scholarships when offered

Transfer (Articulation) Agreements

A Transfer Agreement is a formal agreement between two or more colleges and universities.  This agreement outlines the transfer rules for a program or degree designed to aid in a smooth transfer for students.  Queensborough Community College (QCC) has formed Transfer Agreements with CUNY, SUNY and four-year private colleges or universities.  All students attending QCC are eligible and may take advantage of a Transfer Agreement by earning their Associate degree from QCC in the program named in the Transfer Agreement, meeting all admissions requirements, and following the transfer admissions process for the four-year college. 

Students who fulfill all requirements of a Transfer Agreement gain:

  • Assured entry to their focused program of study at the four-year college
  • Assured transfer of QCC (credit-bearing) courses
  • Access to research programs and/or transfer scholarships when offered

Mission:

The Transfer Resource Center (TRC) serves the transfer-out students at QCC with their preparations for senior college experiences in a variety of academic programs, supports student outreach for transfer awareness, and collaborates with external college partners.

Goals:

  • Provide students seeking to transfer after degree completion with assistance and advice
  • Increase student awareness of transfer options through collaboration with the Academies and Advising and a range of informational events and initiatives
  • Develop and maintain articulation agreements with a range of 4-year institutions that align well with our degree programs and help students transfer successfully
