Our Purpose:
The purpsoe of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. "Phi Theta Kappa's mission is two-fold: (1) recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and (2) provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship programming. The society operates on four hallmarks: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship, and as a member of this organization, you will have the opportunity to paricipate in important college-sponsored activities, as well as, regional events that acan bring you together with other PTK students, graduates, and faculty.
Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society is the official honor society of 2-year community colleges. Queensborough is the Lambda Sigma Chapter of this prestigious honor society and our objective is to recognize the academic achievement of our members and provide them with opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders. One opportunity Honor Society Members have is the ability to apply for prestigious academic scholarships while enrolled at QCC, as well as, at the baccalaureate level. Phi Theta Kappa members can use PTK Connect to search four-year Colleges and Universities that are transfer-friendly and see the scholarships they offer community college students - including those exclusively for PTK members. Queensborough Community College Lambda Sigma Chapter also functions as an official student club/organization on the college campus. Every semester we conduct a chapter service activity. In prior years, we have organized a food drive to benefit the QCC Food Pantry, as well as, collected used books for the NYC Books Through Bars Program, which is a non-profit organization that sends free books to incarcerated people across the country. Our Members also have the opportunitiy to attend and/or participate in regional/national Phi Theta Kappa-sponsored conferences and represent their college chapter with the opportunity to network with other Phi Theta Kappa chapters around the country. Guest Speakers are invited to the QCC campus to speak with our Members about opportunities that may be of interest to them.
How To Join:
- Must be currently enrolled as a QCC student.
- Completed at least fifteen (15) QCC credits.
- Have a Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Be matriculated (seeking a degree)
If you meet the above mentioned criteria and are interested in joining the honor society, email us at PTK@qcc.cuny.edu using your Office365 student email account. In your email, be sure to mention your full name and 8-digit student ID#. Upon receipt, you will receive a response with instructions on how to complete the online membership application and pay the $65 one-time membership fee.
